Accountability Resources
Making sure all Certified Professional Doulas uphold the required standards
Accountability matters
For families enlisting the services of a doula for a life-changing experience such as childbirth, accountability is key. Trusting a doula to guide you through a deeply personal journey and offer all-encompassing support is a significant decision taken by any individual. As such, it is essential that professionally certified doulas are held to high standards and are accountable for their actions.
At NDCB, we value ethics and professional conduct. NDCB-certified doulas are required to adhere to the standards set out in the National Doula Certification Board Code of Conduct and Standards of Professionalism as well as Scope of Practice. Strict policies govern the conduct of CPDs; in the event of any complaints or concerns regarding the conduct of any CPD, relevant action will be taken to address these issues in a constructive, impartial, and timely manner.
Suspension or revocation of certification
Unlike degrees, certification is not granted forever. CPDs must continue to comply with the certification requirements and rules to remain certified. If those requirements are not met or rules are broken, there are consequences, such as suspension or withdrawal of a certificate.
Upon initial application for certification and subsequent recertification applications, individuals must agree to abide by the certification rules.
